Xaxis Privacy Policy

If you would like to understand how the Xaxis website uses cookies and personal information that you may submit to us, then click here.

The page below explains how Xaxis uses cookies in the services that we provide to our clients.

Xaxis generally collects data in two types of places - from adverts on the World Wide Web where Xaxis serves advertising, and from the websites of clients who use our advertising services.

What does this mean for you as an internet user?

In order to provide our solutions we place cookies on your internet enabled device e.g. your computer, smartphone (“Device”).

We also obtain information from third parties (businesses other than ourselves) and our advertising clients - often as a result of cookies they have placed on your Device.

Why are cookies used?

Cookies enable websites to ‘remember’ you, either temporarily until you close your browser (using a “Session Cookie”) or until the cookie expires or until you choose to remove them (using a “Persistent Cookie”). This means that many websites that you visit will use cookies to provide basic functionality and to ensure that your experience of the site is efficient, fast and easy.

For example cookies allow a website to remember that you are logged in as you move between pages on a website; if a website didn’t use cookies then you would be treated as a new user every time you moved between pages on that site.

Cookies are also often placed by organisations operating websites in order to help generate advertising revenue. This revenue helps to fund their websites, products and services that are made available to you online,  allowing many of them to continue to be provided free of charge at the point of use. These organisations often choose to partner with businesses such as Xaxis.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files. They are downloaded onto your Device whenever you visit a website that uses or collects cookies. Therefore, when we refer to "you" in this note we mean your Device.

There are different types of cookies which are stored in different ways on Devices. Some cookies e.g. Session Cookies are stored on a Device‘s browser, and are deleted when the browser is closed.

Persistent cookies can retain details for particular websites, allowing these to be used in future browsing sessions. These can also be used to identify a Device’s surfing history within certain websites. Persistent cookies are stored on the Device’s hard drive, but they cannot access any other information stored there.

You can select which cookies are stored on your computer, by choosing to “accept” or “refuse” them. These options can be found within your browser settings.

Further information on cookies is available at www.aboutcookies.org.

How does Xaxis use Cookies?

Xaxis is an organisation that works with advertisers to deliver advertising campaigns to meet those advertisers’ business objectives.

Xaxis makes use of cookies to help it provide targeted advertising also known as behaviour-based advertising. These cookies “remember” how you have interacted with advertisements and websites. This information is sometimes shared with other organisations, such as the advertisers who have provided Xaxis with the adverts you see. Quite often targeting or advertising cookies will be linked to site functionality. These cookies are used by Xaxis to deliver adverts more relevant to you and your interests. Behaviour-based advertising is a powerful way to help advertisers ensure that their message is shown on the most appropriate Devices and put in front of people who are likely to be interested in the advertised product or service. By keeping track of a Device’s activity through the sites they visit and content they view, matching ads to the target audience becomes much easier and more effective.

For example:

Xaxis also uses cookies to limit the number of times you see an advertisement as well as to help measure the effectiveness of the advertising campaign. We know that not everyone wants to receive behaviour based advertising and we respect this. Therefore, we are part of the Internet Advertising Bureau's European OBA Framework and therefore part of the "Your Online Choices" scheme. By going to http://www.xaxis.com/common/OPT-OUT_call.html you can opt out of receiving cookies from Xaxis, to opt out of cookies from other advertising businesses who are part of the scheme you can visit the “Your Online Choices" page at http://www.youronlinechoices.com/uk/your-ad-choices .

Adverts that are provided by organisations that are part of the IAB scheme (including Xaxis) will display the icon set out below. By clicking on the icon you will be given information and will be able to go to the Your Online Choices website (as above).

Please be aware that by declining to receive cookies from Xaxis you may still receive cookies and behaviour-based advertising from other businesses (note that the only way for Xaxis to remember your choice is to set a special opt-out cookie).

Turning Cookies Off

You have complete control over the cookies on your Device. You can choose which cookies to accept and to decline. It’s entirely up to you.

Just go into your browser’s privacy settings to decide whether to accept all cookies, no cookies, or to save cookies only from those sites you know and trust. You should always keep in mind that if you delete cookies your online experience will not be as customized to your specific interests and you may not be able to access certain areas or features of websites.
